South Korea, Japan say the North conducted new weapons test, firing projectiles eastward

South Korea and Japan say the North has conducted a new weapons test, firing projectiles eastward.

The two countries say North Korea used two short-range ballistic missiles in the latest test. Pyongyang has already carried out two tests of what it called hypersonic missiles in the past week. Following that, the US imposed sanctions on five people linked to North Korea’s ballistic weapons program. The sanctions are the first by US president Joe Biden’s administration. North Korea says the measure is a provocation and the U-S is intentionally escalating the situation. Pyongyang says its recent missile tests are an exercise of its right to self-defense in the face of potential regional threats.
