Iran's Radio and TV organization, IRIB has been granted a major award by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. The jury unanimously voted to give IRIB the Asia-vision annual award for outstanding coverage of international events. IRIB won the award for its coverage of the death of George Floyd at the hands of US police, and the ensuing mass protests against police brutality around the world. Press TV, a branch of IRIB which broadcasts news in English and French, played a major role in covering the story. The network reported Floyd’s death within hours after the incident and dedicated entire bulletins to the special coverage of the story. The incident was also the subject of many reports delivered by Press TV’s correspondents and featured prominently on programs like The Debate.
