South Korea's president grants a pardon to his predecessor, who is serving a lengthy prison term for corruption. The amnesty cuts short a jail term of more than 20 years for the ex-president. Incumebt President Moon Jaein’s had previously ruled out a pardon. Moon, however, says the deteriorating health of his predecessor was a factor in his u-turn. Former President Park Geunhye has been hospitalized several times this year and is currently receiving treatment. She was arrested in 2017, after being removed from office following a corruption scandal. One year later, The 69-year-old was convicted of abuse of power and bribery.
