US hits North Korean officials with sanctions after missile test

The United States is now urging the UN Security Council to penalize North Korea over its latest missile launches, after imposing its own new sanctions.

US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas Greenfield, says all of Pyongyang's ballistic missile launches since September last year violate UNSC resolutions. Right before making the call for UN action, the US Treasury Department revealed new sanctions on some North Korean and Russian individuals and entities. North Korea has fired two hypersonic missiles in the past week. And for the first time in two years, Leader Kim Jong-un personally watched Tuesday’s launch. Pyongyang argues that it needs those tests to boost its self-defense in the face of potential regional threats.
