Bahrain is hosting Israel’s foreign minister despite widespread anger in the kingdom over Manama’s normalization of ties with the Israeli regime.
Eli Cohen is scheduled to meet Bahraini officials and inaugurate Israel's embassy there. He was scheduled to travel to Bahrain earlier. But it was postponed after Israel’s far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir paid a controversial visit to the al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied al-Quds. Bahrain, along with the United Arab Emirates, signed US-brokered normalization agreements with Israel in September 20-20. Two more Arab states, Morocco and Sudan joined the accord later. The normalization sparked criticism from other Muslim countries. They argued that the move would embolden Israel and harm regional peace and stability. Palestinians, who have been facing Israeli crimes almost on a daily basis, described the agreements as a stab in their back.
