US Consumer confidence drops again in September as anxiety over possible recession weighs on American households.
A survey by research group, Conference Board, shows the index is at its second-lowest level this year as people are pulling back spending in the face of high prices and rising interest rates. Consumers continue their struggle with rising food and energy prices while worrying about further raising of interest rates. The survey data has depicted a gloomy outlook for jobs, incomes, and business conditions. The business organization’s Expectations Index also fell below 80, a threshold that signifies an imminent recession.
