Netanyahu rejects Gantz ultimatum over Gaza

The Israeli war cabinet is in turmoil with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flatly rejecting an ultimatum by Benny Gantz over the strategy in Gaza.
Gantz had threatened to quit the war cabinet if it doesn’t adopt a new Gaza plan by June 8. His six-point plan included the establishment of a multinational civilian administration for Gaza after the onslaught ends. Also among the goals were the release of all captives still held in Gaza and the return of displaced Palestinian civilians to northern Gaza by September. Netanyahu, however, dismissed the comments as "washed-up words" that would mean defeat for Israel. Earlier, the Israeli minister for military affairs, Yoav Gallant, had also said that Israel should not be involved in governing Gaza. Despite its bloodshed in Gaza, Israel is yet to accomplish its stated goals of dismantling Hamas and returning the captives seized during Operation al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October.
