The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says ceasefire talks are near a final stage as the group awaits final approval by the Israeli regime.
A spokesperson for Hamas, Jihad Taha said that a deal can go through if no last-minute conditions are imposed by Israel. He added that the first phase of the proposed agreement will see Israeli troops pull out from certain areas, including the Rafah crossing and parts of the Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border. Taha said the withdrawals of the regime’s forces are supposed to begin once Israeli captives are released in the first week. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had sent a high-level delegation led by Mossad chief David Barnea to Qatar for talks with Hamas. The Biden administration has also sent Brett McGurk to participate in the ceasefire negotiations. Trump's incoming US envoy, Steve Witkoff was also briefed on the negotiations during his meeting with Qatari Prime Minister in Doha and then Israeli Prime Minister in Al-Quds.
