Canada’s newly sworn-in prime minister has rejected the US president’s annexation threats, saying Canada will never become part of its southern neighbor.
Mark Carney stressed, in his inauguration address, that Canada, in his words, will never ever, in any way, shape or form, be part of the United States. He also expressed hope his government could find ways to work together with the administration of US President Donald Trump. Earlier, Canada’s foreign minister said the country’s sovereignty is not up for discussion with the US. Ottawa also says the Trump administration’s punishing tariffs on Canada are aimed at crippling the country’s economy and forcing it to accept annexation by the US.
