Hamas has agreed to a proposal by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, which calls for a 70-day ceasefire and the release of 10 Israeli captives in two phases.
The proposal would reportedly see the daily entry of a thousand aid trucks into Gaza as well as negotiations aimed at permanent truce. Meanwhile, some reports indicate that the Israeli regime has rejected the proposal. According to Israeli media, a senior official has said that Hamas is setting conditions that “mean a complete failure to meet the war goals.” Israel ended a three-phase ceasefire agreement in March, following two months of truce during which Hamas committed itself to the ceasefire conditions. The regime then refused to proceed to the second phase and resumed its assault on Gaza. Since then, Israel has continued its genocidal war, pushing the death toll in Gaza to nearly 54,000.
