Iran strongly condemns Pelosi's remark

Iran has strongly condemned calls in Washington to tighten sanctions, saying that US officials are openly advocating economic pain against the Iranian people.
The remarks followed reports that former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had called for increased economic pressure on Iran, saying ordinary citizens, including those in rural areas, should QUOTE “feel the pain.” In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described the comments as evidence of a deliberate attempt to impose suffering on civilians for political ends. He argued that intentionally targeting a nation’s population through economic measures crosses both legal and moral lines and aligns with classical definitions of terrorism. He said no government has the right to base its policies on the suffering of another country’s people. Iranian officials maintain that sweeping sanctions harm ordinary citizens more than governments, worsening inflation and financial pressure on families.
