Reactions coming in after a US court acquits white teen Kyle Rittenhouse of murder in the fatal shooting of two men during anti-racism protests last year. People rally in New York to denounce the verdict. The protesters called Rittenhouse’s acquittal a failure of the justice system. Also in New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio reacted. He said, to call the verdict a miscarriage of justice is an understatement. Civil rights and gun control groups denounced the verdict too and criticized the US justice system as broken. President Joe Biden said the verdict leaves many Americans, including himself, fleeing angry and concerned. Yet, he said, the jury has spoken and everyone should express their views peacefully. Rittenhouse was part of a self-declared militia, which roamed the streets of Kenosha during protests against police brutality on August 20-20. Those demonstrations began after a white officer shot and paralyzed African-American Jacob Blake.
