The Russian defense minister says US bombers have practiced using nuclear weapons close to his country’s borders.
According to Sergey Shoigu, the US has carried out over 30 flights as close as 20 kilometers from the Russian border over the past month. That’s two and a half times more than the number of missions flown over the same period last year. Shoigu warns that any US decision to send military advisers and more military hardware to Ukraine will further fuel tensions in the region. Earlier this month, the United States accused Russia of planning to attack Ukraine, citing military movements along the Ukrainian border. Moscow rejects the accusation, saying it has no aggressive plans. Russia has also expressed concern about NATO’s military build-up and frequent war games near its borders.
