It was in 1979 that Irans semi-modern monarchy was upheaved by a full-scale Islamic Revolution, with the clerical school taking the reins of rule.
Forty-three years later, the father of the Revolution is being commemorated 33 years on from his demise. Imam Khomeini passed away at almost 90, on June 3 or Khordad 14 in 1989.
The anniversary falls to June four in 2022. The ceremony has traditionally been held in his mausoleum between Tehran and Qom since it was completed in 1992.
