For the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, South Korea, China and Japan have held a high-level trilateral summit in Seoul, South Korea. While the South has managed to improve relations with Japan, ties with China have grown strained, as Seoul has sought to strengthen its alliance with the United States.
