Thousands of Venezuelans have rallied in support of President Nicolas Maduro as a post-election standoff continues.
Maduro himself delivered a speech at the march, which was held in downtown Caracas. He said opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado are seeking to foment a coup. Maduro called for their arrest. Venezuela's National Electoral Council proclaimed Maduro the winner of a third term in office following a vote on July 28. The opposition, however, claims election fraud and has been staging rival rallies. The U-S, the EU and several Latin American countries have backed the opposition claim. Anti-Maduro protests have claimed 25 lives so far. More than 24-hundred have also been arrested.
