The second day of debates is underway in the Iranian parliament on President Masoud Pezeshkian’s proposed ministers. Abbas Araqchi, the pick for foreign minister, presented and defended his plans, including on how to approach the sanctions against Iran.
Araqchi also touched upon the new administration’s plans for ties with other countries. He said Iran prioritizes relations with countries, such as Russia and China, which stood by Iran during tough times and sanctions. Araqchi added that Iran will try to manage hostilities with the U-S. Araqchi was the third nominee on Sunday to come under scrutiny by the lawmakers after the nominees to head the intelligence and economy ministries. A vote of confidence on all of the 19 proposed ministers is expected on Wednesday.
