US police have arrested several pro-Palestine demonstrators following scuffles outside the Democratic National Convention in the city of Chicago.
The police detained and handcuffed the protesters after they broke through a security fence near the D-N-C venue. Thousands of demonstrators were turned out on the first day of the convention in a show of solidarity with the people in Gaza and against the US support for the Israel regime. A group called "March on the D-N-C" says some 100-thousand protesters are expected during the four-day event. Meanwhile, in his inaugural speech, President Joe Biden briefly touched on the issue of Palestine and said the protesters have a point. The US is accused of aiding and abetting the Gaza genocide. Washington has sent billions of dollars in military aid to Israel while also shielding the regime at international forums, including at the United Nations.
