Russia says it has repelled a massive Ukrainian drone attack against power and refinery plants in the country.
The Defense Ministry says its forces destroyed nearly one-hundred sixty drones across 15 regions, including the capital Moscow. Debris from the downed drones ignited fires at the Moscow Oil Refinery and at a power station in the Tver region, which is one of the largest energy producers in central Russia. Residential areas in Russia’s Belgorod region were also targeted. The attack came days after Ukrainian drones struck fuel depots in southwest Russia's Rostov region and the northern Kirov region. The war between the two countries has escalated since Ukraine’s incursion into Russia's Kursk region on August 6th. Both sides have targeted energy infrastructure since Russia began its military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
