Forty nations contributing to the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon have strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on the peacekeepers.
In a joint statement, they said the attacks must stop immediately and be properly investigated. At least five peacekeepers have been injured in recent days by the Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. The peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, says the Israeli military has deliberately fired on its positions. In spite of the casualties, the mission’s spokesperson said on Saturday that the peacekeepers will NOT move from the Lebanese border despite the Israeli regime request to do so. The spokesperson says the decision to stay was unanimous and was deemed important in order to report to the UN Security Council.
