Tensions have escalated between Ethiopia and Somalia following a controversial port deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland. Somalia, which has been opposed to the agreement, recently announced that Ethiopia would not be participating in the upcoming AU mission in January. As a key troop contributor to the African Union Mission in Somalia, Ethiopia emphasizes its commitment to avoiding further conflict while asserting its need for access to the Red Sea.
