The US has delivered the first batch of advanced Abraham battle tanks to Taiwan as the Asian island continues to boost its military capacity.
The Taiwanese defense ministry said the 38 tanks are the first of 109 tanks the island requested from the U.S. in 2019. According to the ministry, the tanks have been moved to an army base for training. Taiwanese media have reported that these are the first new tanks to be delivered to the Island in 30 years. The US supplies most of Taiwan’s military hardware, despite repeated condemnations from China. Beijing considers Taiwan as part of its territory based on the one-china principle. It has also warned that it is prepared to use military force to keep its territory united.
