South Korean investigators seek extension of arrest warrant for impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol, as the current arrest warrant for the embattled leader is set to expire on Monday.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, known as the CIO, has formally requested police assistance to detain the President. The move follows an unsuccessful attempt by the investigators last Friday to detain him at his residence in Seoul. The hours-long standoff ended without any action being taken. Yoon became the country's first sitting president to face arrest over his botched attempt to declare martial law on December 3rd, triggering political chaos in the country. He has since holed up in the presidential residence, surrounded by hundreds of loyal security officers resisting arrest efforts.
