An Iranian citizen and university lecturer in France, 35-year-old Mahdieh Esfandiari has been held in a detention facility in the suburbs of Paris.
She was arrested after publishing messages on a Telegram channel in condemnation of Israel’s ongoing genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip. A judicial decision is expected in the coming days but France’s move has put a question mark on the country’s so-called freedom of expression. We have more in this report from Paris.
