Dense fog reduces visibility in northern India

A thick blanket of fog shrouded parts of northern India on Friday (February 19), reducing visibility for people commuting early in the day.

In the capital New Delhi and city of Amritsar, some people travelling in vehicles in the morning used their headlights to increase visibility amid the fog.

Temperatures in northern parts of the Indian subcontinent, skirting the Himalayan foothills, dip drastically during the months of December and January mostly due to seasonal western disturbances, which can lead to fog.
