Iran was ranked fifth among top tile exporting countries in 2019 and first in the region. These items are sent to markets in all continents with the largest consumers being in the construction industry.
Only half of the tiles produced in Iran are domestically consumed. Iran meets all domestic demands of tiles for the construction industry. This is while the country is operating at only 40 percent of its nominal production capacity.
Last year, around 400 million square meters of tiles were produced.
Also Iran exported around 160 million square meters of tile in 2020.
Based on the country's 5-year economic outlook, the government plans to increase production of tiles to 700 million square meters.
The estimated value of this production is said to reach over two billion dollars.
Around 150 tile production units are formally active in the Iranian tile industry.
