The results of a recent survey show a majority of Americans want more accountability amid growing incidents of police brutality against the Black community. According to a poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News, 60% of Americans believe more should be done to hold police accountable for mistreatment of African Americans. The survey also revealed that 45% of US citizens have confidence that police are properly trained to avoid excessive use of violence, down from 54% in 2014. The poll coincided with the trial of Derek Chauvin, the white police officer convicted of killing African American George Floyd. The man’s death in May last year sparked a wave of protests against racial profiling and police brutality in the United States.
