British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has once again played down another independence referendum in Scotland, claiming most people in the UK don’t want such a vote.
Johnson said a second independence vote would be irresponsible and reckless, and that most Britons find the timing inappropriate. Comments come ahead of a key vote for the Scottish parliament on Thursday. First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has pledged to hold a referendum if her Scottish National Party wins a majority. She can call for a vote even if her party doesn’t secure enough seats but there are a majority of pro-independence parties in parliament. On Tuesday, Sturgeon challenged Johnson to take the matter to court if he wants to prevent the vote. In 2014, Scots voted by 55 to 45 percent to stay in the UK.
