Iran has denounced as a shameful genocide the discovery of mass graves in Canada’s former residential schools for indigenous children. Foreign ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, says the Canadian government has to accept responsibility for the crime and be held accountable for that. He said Canada has always pretended to be a defender of human rights, but now, it tries to divert attention from its dark history of human rights with false claims. Khatibzadeh said Iran and several other countries demand a UN-monitored probe into the issue, as the Canadian government lacks the qualification to conduct such an investigation. His reaction comes after the discovery of multiple mass graves at sites of two church-run schools in Canada in recent weeks. The graves contained the remains of nearly 1,000 indigenous students.
