Tunisia's ruling party has slammed President Kais Saied dismissal of the country’s prime minister and suspension of the parliament. The Ennahda Movement denounced the president’s move as a state coup against the revolution and the constitution. It said members of the party and Tunisian people will defend the revolution. The Tunisian parliament speaker made similar remarks. Rached Ghannouchi said we consider the suspended institutions to be still standing. Earlier, Saied froze all powers of the House of Representatives and lifted the immunity of members of parliament. The developments took place after violent protests were held in several cities across the nation. Demonstrators demanded the government step down after a spike in COVID-19 cases that has aggravated economic troubles.
