Democratic senators and families of the 9/11 victims call on US President Joe Biden to declassify documents detailing Saudi Arabia’s role in the terrorist attacks.
The families say Biden has failed to fulfill its campaign promise to release the information on the 2001 attacks. They say 20 years after the attacks, there is simply no reason to keep this information secret. The group has threatened to publicly stand against the Biden administration’s participation in the next month's memorial ceremonies unless the information is released. Meanwhile, the chair of the Senate’s foreign affairs committee backed the push. Bob Menendez said the bereaved families have a right to know if the government is sitting on documents implicating Saudi Arabia or others in the attacks. Fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 attackers were Saudi nationals. Back in 2004, a commission found charities funded by the Saudi government likely supported the attacks.
