The US embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has issued a fresh warning for Americans to avoid travelling to the city’s airport, citing security threats.
US citizens have also been asked to leave the surrounding areas of the airport immediately. The warning came hours after the Pentagon said the evacuation process continued to face specific, credible threats. That followed Thursday’s deadly attack outside Kabul Airport. The attack hampered the evacuation process of foreign nationals and forces ahead of the August 31st deadline. However, a western official has said the evacuation of civilians is underway at a very fast pace to meet the deadline. More than five thousand people remain inside the airport awaiting evacuation, while some western countries, including Spain and France, have already ended their operations.
