At least six people have been injured in what the authorities have called a terrorist attack in New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland. The prime minister said the attacker stabbed the victims in a supermarket and was immediately shot dead by the police. She said the attacker was a Sri Lankan national who had been in New Zealand for ten years and was known to the police. Ardern called the attack hateful and said the attacker was inspired by the Daesh terrorist group. In March 2019, New Zealand witnessed its worst-ever terror attack in Christchurch. There, a white supremacist shot dead more than 50 Muslim worshipers at a mosque.
