A Syrian government representative who attended the talks in Geneva aimed at drafting a new constitution says some of the proposals made by the opposition were unrealistic and malignant.
Kuzbari, the co-chair of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, also accused the opposition of trying to legitimize Turkish and US occupations of Syrian territories. Meanwhile, the UN envoy for Syria said the Geneva talks ended in a big disappointment. Geir Pedersen said we didn’t manage to achieve what we had hoped for. He said the negotiators failed to reach a consensus. The talks started Monday following a nine-month hiatus. This week, the delegations returned to Geneva after mediation by Pedersen. They had agreed on a mechanism to begin drafting a new constitution for Syria as part of the U-N-led political process to end the years-old conflict in the Arab country.
