Facebook put profits over curtailing harmful content: New whistleblower

PressTV 8 views
American Social-media giant, Facebook, faces new allegations of prizing growth and profits over combating hate speech, misinformation, and other threats to the public. The allegations are filed in a former employee's affidavit, which is seen by the Washington Post. The whistleblower says Facebook officials routinely undermined efforts to fight problematic content during the tenure of former U-S President Donald Trump. The reason, the affidavit says, was concern about potentially damaging effect on the user growth, as the key to the company’s multi-billion-dollar profits. The allegations echo those made by whistleblower Frances Haugen during his testimony to the US Congress earlier this month. Over the past years, Facebook and its other platforms, including Instagram, have been criticized for allowing dangerous and criminal behavior, including terrorist content, to ensure profitability.
