Iran is elected as one of the members of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
This came during the 26th annual conference of O-P-C-W member states held in the Hague. Iran now is a member of the council for a 2-year term. The executive council consists of 41 O-P-C-W member states that are elected by the Conference of the States Parties and rotate every two years. In recent years, the U-S and its allies have been pressuring member states in order to prevent Iran's membership in the council.
