Omicron is raising concerns in Europe too, with several countries struggling to cope with record daily infections caused by the newly-identified variant.
France says up to 10-percent of its new cases are suspected to be Omicron. The Health Minister says the new variant is the main reason for the planned introduction of a new vaccination pass, early next year. On Friday, Britain registered over 93-thousand new daily cases. That was a record number. Of them, 32-hundred was Omicron cases, up from nearly 17-hundred reported on Thursday. Meanwhile, Germany logged nearly 43-thousand new infections and over 400 deaths in the past 24 hours. On Friday, the country designated France and Denmark as high-risk zones. Berlin says it will impose quarantine on unvaccinated travelers from the two states.
