Iraqis are on the streets of the capital Baghdad to honor top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and senior Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, both assassinated by the US two years ago.
The Iraqi demonstrators are calling for the withdrawal of American forces from their country. They’ve been demanding that ever since Soleimani and al-Muhandis lost their lives in a US drone strike near Baghdad on January 3, 2020. Both men were leading anti-terror figures who played a great role in defeating Daesh in Iraq. Amid the expulsion calls there, the US last year ended its combat mission in Iraq and limited it to an advisory role.
