Before heading for the NATO summit, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan caused a surprise by linking Ankara’s approval of Sweden's bid to join the NATO military alliance to Turkey’s EU accession. This came as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the gaps between Stockholm and Ankara need to be bridged.
